Swallowtail Butterfly baskets

Every year I make these butterfly baskets using a template from Brenda Quintana.  This year I put the Large Swallowtail Butterfly from Frantic Stamper on the front and it fit perfectly.

I used one sided dsp (designer series paper) but if you don't like the white inside of the basket and underside of the handle you could use two sided paper.

This is where you can download the template for the large and small butterfly boxes:

I also used the Petite Layering Posies by Frantic Stamper to make the center flower for the butterfly.

Here is a picture of the butterfly on the handle, which I just cut out from  the dsp:

Below is what the template looks like once you hand cut it out.  You are given dotted lines to score and fold then put your adhesive on the good side of the box and simply fold it up and adhere:

Bring the "box" flaps up agains the inside of the butterfly part and adhere, making sure none of the box part shows when looking at the front of the card.

You can make decorative handles using various edge punches or leave the handle as a straight piece of 1 1/4 x 12" cardstock.

These are some of the boxes I made last year for a local charity:

If you are going to emboss the fronts, run them through your Grand Calibur before assembling.  I attached some cute tags and made matching cards for Mother's Day last year.

You can also put flowers in them as shown below:
