Penguin Friends

The background for this card was made using the Faux Mother of Pearls technique which I also call the Saran Wrap technique.  I used some Heidi Swapp Metallic Texture Paste instead of the metallic acrylic paint used in the tutorial linked above.

The icebergs are made using the Impression Obsession Mountain Landscape Layers and the snowy hills are the Impression Obsession Hill Landscape Layers.  Now that I look back at the card, I should have placed the two penguins closer together so they'd be holding "hands".

I also used this stamp set on my card.  It has a lot of fun and different greetings.

Advent Card

The church I used to go to when I was little had the most beautiful Advent wreath with it's pink and purple candles and all the greenery.  This inspired me to make today's card using the following dies from the Dies R Us Store:

Memory Box Radiant Frame (you could use any of these sun ray dies)

Thanks for taking a look -- Ann

Wintery Die Cut Club Cards

Both of these cards were made using die cuts from The Green Duck Sales Die Cut Club December release which can be seen here:

I used the penguin as the center of my snowflake (snowflake not included).  You can add the words "Peace" or "Let it Snow", etc to this card and it's complete.  I wasn't sure who I was giving this to so I didn't put any words on it yet.

The Christmas tree card can also be used as a Christmas card rather than a wintery / snow card.  Just put Merry Christmas on it and it's done.  These four trees are my favorite die cuts from the December release.  I was in awe when I saw how pretty they were.

It Moose Be the Holidays

I have friends who don't celebrate Christmas for one reason or another but still decorate their house and have holiday parties.

I thought this card was appropriate for those friends.  You can also change the card and put the words "Merry Christmas" on it for those who do celebrate Christmas.

The moose in the wreath is all one die cut from the Green Duck Sales Die Cut Club December release which can be seen here:

These die cuts are a great way to make quick yet nice looking cards.  Check out all the details of what the die cuts are made of here.

Coloring Your Embossing Folder Cards

After you've embossed a piece of card stock, there are so many ways to color in the embossing.
I chose to use several different mediums on my card today.

I started off embossing a white piece of 80 lb card stock with the Darice Greens Sprigs and Berries Embossing Folder from Dies R Us.

When I look for embossing folders that I know I want to color with gilding wax, I look for ones that have a lot of close detail so when rubbing on the gilding wax, I won't be leaving smudges between the embossed areas.  In this case, the pine branches and pine cones were very easy to apply gilding wax to.  However, the lighter green leafy branches are more spread apart, so those were a bit tricky.

After applying the gilding wax to the leafy branches, I covered the smudges with a white gel pen.  Then I applied a coat of Deco Art Gold Glitz Glamour Dust paint over the entire card panel.  This left a glittery shine to the everything on the card,  filled in the white spaces, and covered my smudges.

I used gilding wax on the pinecone embossed areas, the pine branches and the green leafy branches.  I then colored in the centers of the pine cones with a matte gel pen, used an enamel gel pen on the tiny berries on the branches, and used a metallic gel pen on the bigger berries.  After the bigger berries were dried, I used a white gel pen to fill in the centers.  This was all done before painting on the gold glitter paint.

After the gold glitter paint dried, I didn't want the green pine branches or larger berries to have the gold glitter on them, so I went over both with metallic gel pens.

Here is another card I colored in, but this time I embossed a piece of silver foil card stock.  I used some Sakura Souffle gel pens to color it in.

Die Cut Club JOY card

The snowman in the center of this card is from the Green Duck Sales Die Cut Club.  He is one of about 30 die cuts that are part of the December release shown below:

These die cuts are great for making really quick cards that don't have the "quickly made" look.

Each die cut is made on heavy card stock with brilliant coloring and some even have glittery accents.

For my card, I used a small snow globe by Frantic Stamper and put the snowman die cut on the base.  Then I added some tiny greenery,  the letters J and Y, and scored some lines at the bottom and the card was done.

The other designers on the Die Cut Club team have made some gorgeous cards.  You can see all their cards in one spot on our Facebook page.  Just "like" us and "follow" to get all the posts when a new card is added.

Deer Christmas Bauble JOY

I'm trying to get my Christmas cards done before other commitments come up,  but I feel like I'm really rushing things this year.  I have the cards for my family and neighbors done and am now working on cards for friends and co-workers.

Today's card uses the Frantic Stamper Deer Christmas Bauble and Teardrop Christmas Bauble.

The Teardrop Christmas Bauble is the background for the Deer Christmas Bauble but it can also be used by itself.

The letters are from an old Bigz die from Stampin' Up and the green bow was made with a tiny punch.

A Peek-a-Boo Christmas Card

I made this peek-a-boo window card for my 2 year old nephew, Ronan, for Christmas.

The images on the inside are die cuts by the Green Duck Sales.  I cut out the letters "HO" using some alphabet dies I had and cut the circles for the windows and that was it.

These cute die cuts are just a sample of what came in the December subscription.  I'll be posting other cards I made with more of the die cuts in the next few days.

All the details about the die cuts can be found on their website or Etsy store.

Birthday Card for a 21 yr old Nephew

I know my nephew doesn't have time to look at my blog so there's no worry that he might see this.

Zach is turning 21 this year; he's the first nephew out of many in the family.  He's working so hard at college and was just accepted into the School of Pharmacy at WVU.  I'm so proud of him but also proud of all my 14 nieces and nephews.

For my card, I used a Darice embossing folder but only embossed the corners of the paper.  I embossed one corner then embossed the other.  I had to run it through my Grand Calibur due to the way I had to position the paper.

To highlight the embossing, I rubbed on some gold and patina gilding wax then heat embossed over that with some clear embossing powder.  This dulled the color of the wax a little but it turned out okay.  I then cut two long, skinny strips of teal paper to offset the edges of the embossed areas.

The Happy Birthday die is by Frantic Stamper.

Thanks for stopping by.

Ornate Frame with Poinsettias

Hi Everyone!  Ann here with a holiday card and some teal poinsettias which are my favorite.

These are the dies I used:

Sue Wilson Starry Night Sky (for the tiny stars)

Sue Wilson Starry Night Sky

For being such a detailed die, the Ornate Oval Frame cut out perfectly in just one swipe in  my Vagabond machine.

To make the poinsettias, I layered two of the largest size with a piece of foam tape in between to give more dimension, rounded the backs with a foam mat and stylus and then adhered a smaller flower to the top.  The leaves are made by simply adding another one of the largest flowers cut on green glitter card stock.  These poinsettias are the perfect size for the Ornate Oval.

For the finishing touches, I added some IO Fir Sprigs and some tiny stars left over from a previous card using the Sue Wilson Starry Night Sky.

Poinsettias from an Embossing Folder

Ann here with a card I made using a gorgeous Darice Mosaic Poinsettia embossing folder which is available at the Dies R Us Store.

Darice - Embossing Folder - Mosaic Poinsettia

Here's another photo without all the shine from the camera:

To make the card, I embossed on white card stock.  Then I just painted it all in using distress inks and a paint brush.  To give the sparkle, I brushed on some Ceramcoat Sparkle Glaze paint by Delta Creative.  This added a clear iridescent sparkle and has tiny pieces of glitter in it.  Once that was dry, I manually cut around the embossing and adhered it to  piece of linen white card stock.  By cutting out the image, I didn't have to be real careful trying to stay within the lines when painting it in.

Since the card is going to be mailed, I wanted to keep the flower centers flat and not use any gems which would likely put holes in the envelope or fall off of the card.  I colored the centers with Smooch pearlized gold accent paint.  The top panel is layered on top of a piece of  gold Shimmer Sheetz.

I can see so many more possibilities with this embossing folder.  To see all the embossing folders available at Dies R Us, click here.

Remember to stop back daily to see what the other Design Team members have created.

Happy Holly Days

Impression Obsession's Challenge called Chill Out is still going on.  You have to use cool colors on your card and all Impression Obsession products.   For me, cool colors are silver and blue.

I recently got this Holly stamp by Melissa Gordon from Impression Obsession and was curious what it would look like if I heat embossed it.  It's a gorgeous stamp with so much detail.  It looks beautiful inked up and did just as well with embossing powder.

Impression Obsession also has this Holly Days stamp which I thought was perfect for the Holly card.

You have until 7pm Central time tonight to enter the challenge.
