Alcohol Ink on Tiles

(with the flash on)

(without the camera flash)

I stumbled upon a website called the Alcohol Ink Community where you can see some amazing talent by AI artists.  There is a video on the site where a lady paints stones with AI so I figured I'd give it a try on some ceramic tiles we had left over.  I broke the tile for a more natural look.

I used canned air to blow the inks around.  This is highly addicting; once you start, you can't stop.  To finish off the piece, I covered it with Glossy Accents for a nice shine.

If you aren't familiar with Alcohol Ink (AI), this is what it looks like:

Ranger Tim Holtz Adirondack Alcohol Ink

It is basically alcohol based ink that dries quickly.  It works best on glossy photo paper, Yupo paper, glass and other items but does not work on regular cardstock or watercolor paper.  I had a lot of this ink from my card teaching days, so I dug it out and gave it another try.

You should check out the amazing talent in this group.  They also have a Facebook page for the AI Community which you can join for free.  The members are very helpful to beginners like myself.

I hope to work on some other pieces later today.  Wouldn't it be fun to make some stones for jewelry out of this?
