Peace Card Band

This is a very quick card to make and uses just one die.... the Peace Card Band by Frantic Stamper.  Place the die across the front of your card base, positioning it anywhere you want (top, middle or bottom of the card or diagonally), and run it through your die cut machine.

Once the card base was cut out, I added the floral dsp to the top and bottom panels.  I will be using this die in a lot of different ways so feel free to stop back if you want to see them.

Poinsettia Pillar

I'm not sure why this die by Memory Box is called Poinsettia Pillar when there isn't a poinsettia on it, but it's still a pretty die.

I cut it out with gold foil cardstock then filled in the areas with green and red foiled cardstock.  The white background was embossed with a dotted folder but hard to see, then I filled in the white candle with just plain white paper that wasn't embossed.  The background die is Sue Wilson's Ornate Pierced Rectangle die.

I'm entering this in the Simon Says Stamp Anything Goes Challenge for Wed.

Products Used:

Sue Wilson Ornate Pierced Rectangles
Memory Box Poinsettia Pillar
Sizzix Holiday Words
Dotted embossing folder
DCWV Foil Cardstock 6x6 pack

Thanks for stopping by.  I hope you aren't getting sick of seeing Christmas cards after Christmas.  I will move on to floral cards once the weather warms up.

Poppy Stamps Holiday Poinsettia

All of the above cards have both the Poppy Stamps Holiday Poinsettia and Sue Wilson Ornate Pierced Rectangles and measure only 5 x 6.5".

The Holiday Poinsettia embosses really nicely.  To make each flower, I only used one of each size (large, medium and small) die in the set and layered them so the petals were offset.

Products Used:

Sue Wilson Ornate Pierced Rectangles
Poppy Stamps Holiday Poinsettia
Sizzix Celebration Words
Sizzix Holiday Words
Nellie's Choice Swirls embossing folder

Penny Black: What's In Your Cup?

I am totally loving these new to me Penny Black dies called "What's in Your Cup" and "Warmest Wishes".  The cup is so easy to cut out and embellish.  I also recycled some paper that was on the back of a Christmas card our neighbors gave us; it's the brown paper above with white branches on it.  I scanned it into my computer so I could use it over and over again.

These cards will be the cards I send to my family members next Christmas.  When my family mentions the cards I made, I'll know they were talking about these Penny Black cup cards.  Normally I only make one of each card, but then when family starts talking about the cards I sent, I can never remember which card I sent to who (or whom).  I got the idea of putting the green sprigs on the card from Bonnie Klass's card.

I used the following products on the cards:

Penny Black What's in Your Cup
Penny Black Warmest Wishes
Dee's Distinctively Candy Cane
Cheery Lynn Christmas Bells (green sprig)
Martha Stewart edge punches:  Pinking Scallop, Doily Lace and Aspen Snowflake
Martha Stewart Arctic Snowflake punch
Poppy Stamps Simple Snowflakes
Simon Says Stamp Stitched Rectangles

and Word Art Wednesday challenge and
Crop Stop's December Challenge (I used distress inks to color the mugs, Tombow adhesive, Martha Stewart punches, and scor tape)

Individual photos of the cards:

O Holy Night

A total of three dies were used to make this card:

Penny Black O Holy Night words
Sue Wilson Wise Men Mini Striplet
Frantic Stamper Northern Star

To make the card, I cut the Wise Men striplet right into the blue card front and backed it on the inside with a piece of white cardstock.  I then filled in the star and rays with silver foiled cardstock.  The words "O Holy Night" cut out all in one piece which made it easy to line up.

The finished card measures 5" x 5.75".

Merry Christmas!

Poinsettia Noel

I was reorganizing my craft area when I found this piece of poinsettia cardstock that was part of a 12 x 12 pack by K and Co. called Let it Snow.   I paired it with a Sizzix heart that I stamped with a script stamp from Rubbernecker Stamps.

To make the poinsettia, I cut two of the poinsettias that come in the Sizzix Tim Holtz Festive Greens set and layered them on top of each other.

I used the following products:

Sizzix Tim Holtz Festive Greens
Sizzix Tim Holtz Holiday Words:Script
Sizzix Hearts nesting dies

Holiday Hugs

The current challenge at IO Stamps is Last Minute Cards & Gifts.

I never knew that embossing folders were allowed for these challenges until recently, and I love embossing; so today's tag uses an embossing folder for the background on the store bought tag.  After embossing the tag, I rubbed on some gilding wax with my finger over the embossed areas.  It really made the pine branches stand out.

Products Used:

Impression Obsession Die322 - Small Poinsettia Set
Impression Obsession Die516 - Hugs
Leanne Creatief embossing folder 35.9746
Creative Expressions Spring Green gilding wax
Viva Perlen Pen

Frosty with Blue Jays

I've had this stamp from Northwoods Rubber Stamps for quite a while and not sure if it's still available.  I've always colored the birds as cardinals but didn't think the red would go with the teal on the background paper so I changed the birds to blue jays (minus their white stomachs which I realized later).

Products used:

Northwoods Rubber Stamp
Martha Stewart Alpine Snowflake punch
Darice embossing folder for the bottom panel
Sizzix Holiday Words
Diamond Stickles for parts of the stamped image and on the white enamel dots
Star paper from JoAnn Fabric (by the sheet)
Tim Holtz Distress paper (bottom panel)

Hero Arts Real Pine 2

A few days ago I did a card with this same Hero Arts Real Pine stamp but today's is a really different look.

I heat embossed the stamp with white embossing powder and only stamped one time.  For such a detailed stamp, it embossed with every needle on the branch showing.

I finished the card off with a red foil bow from Cheery Lynn Christmas Bells set and the word JOY from Sizzix Tim Holtz Holiday Words die set.

Products Used:

Hero Arts Real Pine
Sizzix Holiday Words
Cheery Lynn Christmas Bells (bow)
White embossing powder
DCWV Foiled Cardstock

Hero Arts Lotus Background

The background was made using this Hero Arts stamp called Lotus Background:

I used a VersaMark pen and inked up the flowers first then heat embossed with glitter red embossing powder.  Then, while the stamp was still in my MISTI, I rubbed off the ink covering the flowers, used the pen to ink up the green leaves, and heat embossed with glitter green embossing powder.  I did the same for the gold accents.  The silver dots were applied with a Viva Perlen-Pen.

By using my MISTI and a VersaMark pen, I was able to choose the areas I wanted to ink up and not have to ink the entire stamp.

Products Used:

Hero Arts Lotus Background stamp
Sizzix Festive Greens (poinsettia)
Glitter Embossing Powder
VersaMark pen
Viva Perlen-pen silver
Gold ribbon
Recollections red glitter dot
Red glitter paper for layering

Hero Arts Real Pine All Decked Out

Update:  My card was selected as a Favorite at the Hero Arts Challenge Blog.

I really like the combination of dies with stamps, so today's card uses another Hero Arts stamp that was barely used in the past and some new dies.

I colored the stamp with Peeled Paint and Vintage Photo distress markers, huffed a few times to get it moist, then stamped on the paper.  I did this a few times, moving the stamp around to various places.

The center of the star is the Simon Says Stamp Abby Snowflake.  When I cut it out using red foiled cardstock for another card, all the little hearts were left over, along with the center star.

These are the products used:

Hero Arts Real Pine H2887 (probably retired)
MFT Die-Namics Accent-It Rock and Roll (star)
Simon Says Stamp Abby Snowflake
Sizzix Tim Holtz Celebration Words
Peeled Paint, Vintage Photo distress markers
DCWV Foiled cardstock 6x6 pack

Purple Pinecone Ornament

I have a lot of this purple foiled cardstock leftover from a mixed pack of DCWV; I've used the other colors but always have purple left over so I figured I'd try making a card with it today.

Growing up we had a lot of these pinecone ornaments on our tree.  I found when cutting them out, however, that the solid die has some lines at the top that show through the top layer.  Just so you know if you buy them; they are not perfect.  I found it easier to trace around the top die and manually cut it out to avoid seeing the top lines like you can see on my ornament just under the bow.

Products Used:

Frantic Stamper Striped Pinecone Ornament
Frantic Stamper Pinecone Ornament Background (not needed)
Cheery Lynn Christmas Bell (bow)

Hero Arts Snowy Tree

I've had this Hero Arts stamp for years now but the only time I've ever used it was in a card making class I taught.  It was time to revisit it along with the technique I used to color it.

I first placed the cling stamp in my MISTI and stamped it with VersaFine black onyx ink onto a piece of watercolor paper.  Then I colored the tree with a green Memento marker.  In hindsight, I should have done the wash behind the tree before coloring it in so I could have gotten closer to the tree.

After coloring the tree, I dabbed a bit of Diamond Stickles on my craft mat and spritzed it with some water.  I also dabbed a bit of Peeled Paint distress ink on the mat and blended the ink into the Stickles so the Stickles turned green.  With a very tiny paint brush, I brushed the green Stickles over the entire tree.  Once the tree was dry, I then did the back wash with Tumbled Glass distress ink watered down and applied the Liquid Pearl drops to the tree.

Products used to make the card:

Hero Arts Snowy Tree
Echo Park Hello Winter 6x6 paper pack
Lawn Fawn Perfectly Plaid Winter 6x6 paper pack
Taylor Expressions Cookie Monster Cardstock
Diamond Stickles
Sizzix Holiday Words
Lt. Blue and Pearl Liquid Pearls

A Cardinal in a Pine Tree

One of my favorite card making techniques is using gilding wax on embossed images.  I find it relaxing to rub the wax over the raised surfaces for some reason.  I also found that if you make a mistake with the wax, you can easily  remove it with a rubber pencil eraser.

So, I first embossed the card panel with the Leane Creatief Pine Twigs EF then rubbed on the Holly gilding wax with my finger.  I started light and did several layers to get the darker color.  I then used a red distress marker and some gold Smooch to cover the berries and dots that were also embossed.

Products Used:

Leane Creatief Pine Twigs embossing folder 35.9746
Creative Expressions Holly gilding wax

Black White and Gold Peace

My card is pretty much a total copy of Sandi MacIver's card which I saw on Pinterest and knew I had to make.  Sandi is a Stampin' Up demonstrator but since I don't own any SU dies, I used what I had for a very similar end result.

To make the poinsettias, I cut the largest die out of gold foil cardstock then two sizes smaller cut out of white glitter paper.  This left just a little of the gold showing to offset the white layer.

Products Used:

Dee's Distinctively Mini Poinsettias
Dee's Distinctively Berry Sprigs
Sizzix Tim Holtz Holiday Words and Festive Greens
Inkssentials Memory Foil Tape
Impression Obsession Pine Pair

Thank you, Sandi, for such wonderful inspiration.

Festive Celebrate

I found a few good deals on Cyber Monday which included some Sizzix Tim Holtz Christmas dies.

I used a pinecone, ribbon, pine branches and poinsettia from the Festive Greens set and the word celebrate from the Celebration Words set.  The leaves from the poinsettia are from the Impression Obsession Poinsettia die.

To make the pine cones, I embossed the paper in the die rather than cutting it out.  This way I was able to color in the petals with a distress marker.

For the poinsettia I cut two then layered each on top of a sheet of red glitter paper for the cutouts to show through.

These are the products used:

Sizzix Tim Holtz Festive Greens and Celebration Words
Impression Obsession Poinsettia
Paper from Recollections stack

Fall Berries

The stamp on this card is the Fall Berries Reverse by Impression Obsession.  For the above card, I simply colored the stamp with distress markers, spritzed it with some water and stamped it on some watercolor paper.

The next card was done using the same stamp but with some gold and silver embossing powder.

The word "celebrate" is from the Sizzix Tim Holtz Celebration Words die set.

Happy Holidays

I've never used this Inkadinkadoo Evergreens stamp with embossing powder until now.  The background is Chipped Sapphire distress ink blended onto the paper with a mini smoothie.  The water stains were made by spritzing the Taylored Expressions Twinkle Twinkle background stamp with water and pressing it onto the paper.

Happy Holidays and the snowflakes are from a set of clear stamps where I lost the packaging so I don't know who made them.

Bamboo Rose Thank You

I had wanted to make some thank you cards to use after Christmas but didn't want them to look too Christmasy so I used the Altenew Bamboo Rose stamp set rather than a poinsettia stamp but stuck with the red and green colors.

To make the background, I first stamped some kraft cardstock with the Impression Obsession Wooden Plank  background stamp and Adirondack Espresso ink.

I thought the roses would be difficult to color in once I embossed them (I didn't want to get ink on the embossing) so I first stamped them with Hero Arts Granite Shadow ink then colored them in with pencils.

The only way I could do this was with the use of my MISTI.

After the roses were all colored in, I inked up the stamps again but this time with VersaMark embossing ink and heat embossed with white powder.  The words "thank you" are by Dee's Distinctively, IME-106.

I was inspired to make this card by Lin Brandyberry.  She uses these two stamps a lot in her exceptional work.

Flourish Pine All Decked Out

I love trying to find new ways to use my stamps so today's card is a result of that.  I took out my Hero Arts Flourish Pine S5247 and thought about how I could spice it up a little.

This is what the stamp looks like:

In the past when I've used this stamp, I would heat emboss the entire stamp with some embossing powder and leave it at that.    This time I took the rubber stamp off it's wooden block and attached it to my MISTI.   This allowed me to heat emboss part and color the rest with markers.   I colored the pine branches  with a Peeled Paint distress marker and the berries with a Festive Berries marker.

Next, I left the stamp on my MISTI and used a VersaMark embossing ink pen to color over the flourishes and other dots, stamped it on the cardstock, then poured on some gold embossing powder.  I was surprised how well it all came out after heat embossing the gold powder on all those tiny dots.

The VersaMark pen has two tips:  one for fine detail and the other that is similar to the tip on the distress ink pens.

After mounting the stamped image on some green burlap, I assembled a poinsettia by Impression Obsession (DIES 322 and 323) cut out of red foiled cardstock by DCWV.
