Winter Sunset

The night after the Super Moon in December, we had the most beautiful sunset.  It was amazing to look at through the bare trees with it's combination of oranges and pinks.

Today's card uses the Impression Obsession Tree Line Cover-a-Card background stamp.  I've used this stamp several times in the past few months.  It's just one of those stamps that stamps perfectly the first time and is easy to use.

First I stamped the Tree Line stamp with Adirondack Earthtones Espresso Dye Ink.  This way I could use distress inks for the background and the dye ink wouldn't smudge.

Then for the background, I used the following distress inks:  Scattered Straw, Wild Honey, Dried Marigold and Tattered Rose.  I used regular 65 lb cardstock from Michaels and to blend the inks I use mini smoothies.  This is what a smoothie looks like:

Smoothies are made by Creative Expressions and have a latex coating that allows them to slide across your paper unlike the typical sponges on other ink blending tools.  It eliminates any lines or smudges.  They are perfect for distress and water based inks and can be washed under hot water and reused again and again.

I'm entering this in the SSS Monday Challenge:  Whatever the Weather (calm and clear for a sunset)
